Accused people smuggler in court

A man accused of smuggling people into Australia by boat between 2010 and 2013 is expected to make a bid for bail.

A man accused of smuggling at least five people into Australia by boat is expected to make a bid for bail on Tuesday.

Ossama Al Refaay, 33, was arrested on Friday after a long-term investigation by the Australian Federal Police and Customs into a number of people arriving by boat between July 2010 and July 2013.

Al Refaay said nothing when he appeared at Central Local Court last week.

His lawyer Michael Abboud said the 33-year-old man would make a bail application when he reappears on Tuesday.
