The ACT has notched up a record 30 new daily coronavirus cases as Canberra's outbreak grows to 167 infections.

An unvaccinated woman aged in her 40s is in intensive care, while three other patients remain in hospital.

One of the ACT's latest cases is a University of Canberra Hospital worker involved in food preparation. The risk of transmission from the worker to clinical staff and patients is considered to be low.

But 15 other food preparation workers have been quarantined and the area deep cleaned.
Meanwhile, an outbreak among the ACT's disability sector has grown to 17 with two more support workers diagnosed.

A second case has been linked to the Condamine Court public housing complex.

Of Tuesday's 30 new infections, 21 are household contacts of existing cases. Another four can be traced back to clusters, while five more are yet to be linked.

Eleven people had been in the community and 13 in isolation while infectious. The quarantine status of six other cases remains unclear.
It's too early for Chief Minister Andrew Barr to say whether Canberra's three-week lockdown will extend beyond 2 September.

"This case number today will cause concern. It is a record day of cases for the ACT," he told reporters.

"We're going to have days like this where, at (a) household level, initial infection will spread to other members.

"The only protection is vaccination. So I say to people who are yet to make that decision - please get vaccinated."

Slightly more than 37 per cent of ACT residents aged 16 and older are fully immunised, while just over 60 per cent have received one dose.
Of Canberra's total cases, 85 per cent are under the age of 45.

Health authorities are still trying to work out exactly how the ACT's first case in 13 months arrived here from NSW.

Around 700 healthcare workers are isolating or quarantining as Canberra's list of exposure locations surpasses 400.

More than 12,400 people are close contacts, while there are 6100 casual contacts.

The ACT government is waiting on additional Pfizer doses after opening registration for under-30s.

"The AstraZeneca vaccine is available now through your local GPs and pharmacists. It is seriously worth considering," Mr Barr said.
