Actuaries want action on super now

The Actuaries Institute believes it is not good enough for the Abbott government to say that superannuation is out of bounds for change.

Actuaries are at odds with the Abbott government, saying now is the time to act and fix the superannuation and pension systems.

Among recommendations in its submission to the government's tax discussion paper The Actuaries Institute calls for lowering the threshold for the high-earners 30 per cent super concessional tax from $300,000 to $180,000.

"It is not good enough to say that superannuation is out of bounds for revision and review," institute president Estelle Pearson says.
