Adam Scott's first stroke play tilt with a short putter in seven months has ended with the former world No.1 finishing in a share of seventh at the Japan Open.
Scott shot a tidy final-round three-under 69 but was never really in the hunt at the Rokko Kokusai course, a disappointing two-over-par on Saturday meaning he needed a miracle on Sunday to contend for the title.
But that wasn't to be as Scott finished at five under, eight shot shots behind winner Satoshi Kodaira.
The Japanese shot a par closing round, enough to give him a one-shot buffer over countryman Yuta Ikeda.
Kodaira's victory was largely built around his blistering second round 10-under 62.
Scott was still the best-placed Australia with countryman Adam Bland three shots further adrift in a share of 12th.
