Adelaide 36ers sack American import Frye

The Adelaide 36ers have cut their American import Jarrid Frye, replacing him with their former guard Rhys Carter for the rest of the NBL season.

The Adelaide 36ers have cut import Jarrid Frye, blaming an ankle injury for his under-performing NBL season.

The 36ers signed guard Rhys Carter as the replacement for Frye, who injured an ankle before the season started.

"The ankle injury he sustained has plagued him throughout the course of the season, preventing him from playing his best basketball," the 36ers' general manager Dean Parker said in a statement on Tuesday.

Frye had been averaging just over eight points a game, a return insufficient for the second-placed Adelaide outfit as they eye a finals campaign.

The 36ers moved on Frye with eight regular-season games remaining, with his replacement needing to play seven games to qualify for the finals.

Carter played for the 36ers in 2010 and then signed a two-year contract with Swedish club Uppsala Basket.

The 29-year-old is due to train with Adelaide for the first time on Wednesday, and will play against ladder leaders Perth on Friday night.

"We are excited by the return of Rhys to the club. He is the type of player who always give 100 per cent, defensively can shut down an opposition player and also has the ability to score," Parker said.
