Mounted patrols and volunteers have joined a search along Adelaide's River Torrens after the discovery of a man's body in the water on Thursday.

Police are treating the death as suspicious at this stage but are yet to determine the man's identity or the cause of death.

He's thought to be between 40 and 60.

A search along the river near the University of Adelaide footbridge was conducted after the discovery and officers and State Emergency Service volunteers returned to the area on Friday.

A post mortem is also being conducted.

Police have asked for anyone who may have visited the area in the past week and who took any photos while there to come forward as their pictures might help with the investigation.
