South Australian Police Minister Tony Piccolo told parliament on Thursday that Clavell, who was believed to have been holed up at the brothel in Adelaide's CBD since Monday, had been found dead inside the building after a siege of more than 12 hours.
The 46-year-old, who had been on the run from police for more than two weeks, is believed to have taken his own life.
Earlier, four women emerged from the massage parlour on King William Street as police continued to plea for Clavell to give himself up and end the siege peacefully.
The release of the women came almost 12 hours into the siege, which began after heavily armed police swooped on a business in the Adelaide CBD at about 1am following a tip-off.
It's understood Clavell, who has a long criminal history, had been armed with a rifle and cache of ammunition.
A woman who claimed she had driven Clavell to the premises on Monday morning had reportedly said he had threatened to "take police out".
The woman, who asked not to be identified, earlier told the Adelaide Advertiser that Clavell was in possession of a .22 rifle and "at least 40 bullets".
"He thinks they have it in for him, he will take police out," she said.
"He knows he won't survive this alive today."
