The Wanderers striker was deemed to have no case to answer after the Sky Blues complained that he racially abused Ali Abbas during the last derby at Allianz Stadium on 8 March.
The disciplinary committee cited the high level of noise at Allianz Stadium as a key factor in its decision: "having regard to the circumstances surrounding the incident particularly the undisputed high noise levels and in the absence of other eyewitness or corroborative evidence, it was possible that Ali Abbas may have misheard what was said by Brendon Santalab."
That contention dismayed Sydney FC officials and prompted Djite to express his feelings on Twitter.
Sydney FC chief executive Tony Pignata said via a statement: "Sydney FC and Ali Abbas are extremely disappointed with the decision of the independent FFA disciplinary committee.
"Ali stands by the comments he made after the game and Sydney FC fully support him in this.
"We would like to reiterate that we believe racial vilification has no place in football or in society.
"The last few weeks have been very testing times for Ali through which he has shown great strength of character and continued to perform to his best.
"Ali has an extremely important game this Sunday and would like to focus on that and helping Sydney FC reach the A-League finals series."
