Advocacy group to fly plane over Hollywood

A women's advocacy group will call on Hollywood to "Stop Enabling Abuse" in response to the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment scandal.

Women's advocacy group UltraViolet has chartered a plane to fly over Hollywood on Tuesday with a banner bearing the words "Hollywood: Stop Enabling Abuse".

The organisation made the move as a response to the unfolding scandal surrounding Harvey Weinstein. They also called out the industry for "its willingness to cover up decades worth of sexual abuse" from the producer and normalisation of his behavior.

The statement also addresses Hollywood's broader issues with "egregious" sexism, listing pay discrimination and body image standards as other instances of women being treated differently than men.

Although several actresses and a few male entertainment figures have spoken out regarding the sexual harassment and assault allegations aimed at Weinstein, many are pointing to a culture of silence surrounding the mogul's actions in Hollywood.

His behaviour, which allegedly dates back decades, has been referred to as an "open secret" within Hollywood.

Meryl Streep condemned Weinstein's actions on Monday, asserting that it is not as well-known as people believe.

Weinstein was fired from the Weinstein Company on Sunday after the board of directors decided to terminate him with cause due to the mounting allegations.
