The annual EJ Whitten Legends Game will move to the AFL's new bye week in a deal that guarantees the event's future.
Channel Seven will now broadcast the match, ending its 20-year association with Nine.
The game's future was in doubt because of a dispute between the EJ Whitten Foundation and a company that held the rights to the event.
But the AFL announced on Tuesday that it would partner the foundation to stage the match for the next five years.
The game will be played on September 2, during the new bye week between round 23 and the finals.
The AFL plans to stage several special events during the week off.
Foxtel and Telstra will also be involved in the match.
The EJ Whitten match, featuring retired AFL stars, has become a fan favourite.
The foundation raises money for research into prostate cancer, the disease that killed AFL legend Ted Whitten.
