Carlton are in negotiations to keep 31-year-old key forward Jarrad Waite at the club for the 2015 AFL season.

Waite, who has been criticised by coach Mick Malthouse and teammate Michael Jamison in recent weeks for his lack of consistency, has kicked 20 goals in 12 matches in 2014.

"He hasn't put pen to paper yet but we're in negotiations at the moment," Carlton's football operations manager Andrew McKay told Radio SEN on Tuesday.

"Jarrad's made it clear to us that he wants to stay at Carlton.

"We'd like to keep him for another year at least. We're in negotiations with Jarrad, and I'm sure that'll work itself out over the course of the next month or so."

Waite could choose to test the market to see if he can find a longer-term deal elsewhere.

The former third placegetter in Carlton's best and fairest award has found form by kicking seven goals in the past two rounds.

Waite is an unrestricted free agent and has scored 243 goals in 180 games.

Carlton have also announced Lachie Henderson's season is over because of a facial injury the swingman suffered in last week's loss to Fremantle.

Scans show Henderson has suffered orbital and frontal sinus fractures.
