AFL Coach Simpson to 'clip' his Eagles

West Coast coach Adam Simpson says he'll give his players a clip for their meek 57-point loss to Adelaide Crows in Sunday's AFL game in Adelaide.

West Coast coach Adam Simpson says he's going to "clip" his Eagles.

But Simpson says he won't panic in response to West Coast's heaviest loss of the AFL season, a 57-point defeat to Adelaide on Sunday.

"This was a bad game and disappointing and we'll review and give them (players) a clip," Simpson said after Adelaide's 19.12 (126) to 10.9 (69) victory.

"But we're going for top two next week. And that might have been the reason why we didn't compete as hard as we normally do.

"It's a really good reminder that this competition has a way of giving you a clip when you take your eye off the ball."

The Eagles will secure a top-two slot if they defeat St Kilda next week. Lose and they will probably slip to third and miss home ground advantage in week one of the finals.

Against a rampant Adelaide, the Eagles conceded the initial nine goals of the game but Simpson said there was no need for panic at the result.

"If you do ride the wave like our members and supporters do, as they have got every right to, you lose a bit of focus," he said.

"The old adage: it's never as good, or never as bad, as it seems - we'll take that approach.

"But we need to look at some things. Clearly we got opened up so we need to get better."
