AFL finals week 2 and 3 locked in

The AFL has outlined the schedule for the rest of the finals series.

Sydney will enjoy prime billing for their preliminary final after their 24-point win over Fremantle.

The Swans will play on Friday night during the penultimate week of the season, guaranteeing an eight-day break to the grand final, should they win through.

Hawthorn, who beat Geelong to earn a week's rest, will host their preliminary final opponents on the MCG the following day.

The AFL has announced the details for week two and week three of the finals series, made clearer after the two qualifying finals.

Geelong will host their semi-final next Friday night at the MCG against either North Melbourne or Essendon, while Fremantle will welcome Port Adelaide or Richmond to Patersons Stadium on Saturday.

AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan said the fixturing ensured the higher-ranked losing side from the qualifying finals would have a seven-day break, with their opponents handed a more challenging six-day interval.

Sydney's favourable preliminary final fixture was granted after the Swans finished on top of the AFL ladder.

The venue for the Swans' final is to be determined. ANZ Stadium is preferred by the AFL, subject to availability.
