GWS speedster Lachie Whitfield is looking forward to capitalising on the generous dimensions of the MCG, as his club strives to make a third successive AFL preliminary final.
It remains to be seen exactly where GWS coach Leon Cameron will deploy the 24-year-old, but Whitfield approaches the contest with confidence after logging a career-high 13 marks when the teams met at the MCG in round two.
"I like playing on the MCG, there's obviously lots of space, lots of pockets you can run into," Whitfield said.
Whitfield was listed as an interchange player when the Giants line-up was released on Thursday.
The Melburnian spent most of the season as a half-back flanker where he won All-Australian honours, but was predominantly used in his more customary role of wingman in last Saturday's elimination final win over Sydney.
Collingwood are the latest obstacle to the Giants bid for a maiden premiership, though encouragingly GWS did beat the Magpies at the same venue by 16 points in March.
Since then both teams have been blighted by massive injury issues, though each club had the depth to keep their season on track before regaining key personnel for the finals.
"Collingwood have had a terrific year, they have probably got the mould of what the Tigers did last year a bit in terms of their pressure," Whitfield said.
"I think it's going to be a high pressure game and we've admired how Collingwood have gone about things this year."
Whitfield was unfazed about encountering a hostile atmosphere, with Collingwood's support on the day sure to dwarf the Giants' faithful.
"It's what we all grew up dreaming to do was play big finals on the MCG in front of screaming crowds.
"We all play footy to win premierships so that's what's on our mind at the minute," said Whitfield, who was looking forward to taking on former Giants Adam Treloar, Will Hoskin-Elliott and Taylor Adams.
