A melee instigated by Richmond's Shane Edwards has cost AFL players $8500.

The clash was the biggest incident for the match review panel from this weekend's games.

Edwards was fined $2500 for beginning and partaking in the melee along with teammates Ty Vickery and Jack Riewoldt, each fined $1000.

Fremantle's Michael Walters and Danyle Pearce were fined $1500 while Nick Suban's wallet has been lightened by $1000 for his involvement in the first-quarter scuffle.

Geelong captain Joel Selwood has also been fined the same amount for careless contact with umpire Shaun Ryan in the Cats' big win over Essendon.

North Melbourne's Scott Thompson will also escape suspension for his trip on West Coast Eagle Mark LeCras, fined $1000.
