After years of complaint and debate about the effect of sun glare on players, the AFL will keep the Marvel Stadium roof shut for day games.

The AFL has seen the light and will keep the Marvel Stadium roof shut for day games.

The league has decided not to have the roof open for the last five afternoon games at the venue this season.

Sun glare has always been a problem for players at the ground when the retractable roof is open during the day.

Former North Melbourne coach Brad Scott was a vocal advocate for keeping the roof shut, whatever the time of day or the weather.

Earlier this month, Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury went on Twitter to also note his displeasure, calling the roof open a shambles.
