Toby Greene will likely face AFL punishment for his spitting incident, with even GWS coach Leon Cameron admitting it did not look good.
While Cameron continued to defend Greene, he said he would be disappointed if it turned out his player had deliberately spat at Richmond's Anthony Miles.
Tigers star Brett Deledio also weighed into the controversy, saying it was a dirty act.
TV footage shows Greene and Miles having a brief push and shove in the second term of Saturday's clash at the MCG.
Greene then spits in Miles' direction as the pair return to the game.
The match review panel have the power to refer Greene directly to the tribunal, but a fine appears the more likely penalty.
Cameron defended Greene post-match, but on Sunday admitted his unease after watching the incident.
"Unfortunately, it's not a great look," Cameron told Channel Seven.
"They (players) spit a lot because of their mouthguard ... they have to get all the saliva out.
"I would be disappointed if that was targeted deliberately towards Miles.
"But Toby and Milesy are really close friends."
Miles played alongside Greene at the Giants before joining Richmond.
Deledio also made his feelings clear.
"It's pretty dirty, really - I'm not sure we need to be spitting on players," the Tigers star said.
"I don't really condone it (and) I wouldn't really recommend it to any of our boys.
