AFL offers Johnson fine over late contact

The match review panel viewed Steve Johnson's bump on Hawthorn opponent Sam Mitchell was careless conduct and medium impact.

The AFL match review panel has agreed with Hawthorn star Sam Mitchell, offering Geelong utility Steve Johnson a $1000 fine for rough conduct.

Johnson collected Mitchell in the lower back with late contact during the first term of Hawthorn's rampaging 62-point win.

The blow forced Mitchell from the field, but he was quoted after the match as saying it was only a glancing blow.

Mitchell added he did not think Johnson should deserve suspension for the incident.

The match day report was the only charge to come out of Monday's game, which ended round one.

The MRP classed it as careless conduct with medium impact to the body.

Also on Tuesday, all six players who were charged on Monday accepted their penalties.

Richmond star Brett Deledio and Gold Coast utility Matt Shaw will miss a game apiece, also for rough conduct.

Collingwood forward Jamie Elliott, Port Adelaide midfielder Brad Ebert and Fremantle ruckman Zac Clarke have taken $1000 fines for tripping.

Port Adelaide defender Tom Jonas is also $1000 out of pocket for striking.
