Gold Coast's Andrew Raines and Greater Western Sydney defender Lachie Plowman have been injured only shortly after returning to AFL pre-season training.

Raines hurt the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee at Wednesday training as AFL clubs came back from the Christmas break.

Plowman suffered a dislocated left elbow on Thursday that needed surgery, putting him out of action for 12 weeks.

While the Suns are yet to determine how long Raines will be sidelined, Plowman will miss the start of the season.

Raines and Plowman were hurt during training drills.

Collingwood's pre-season injury woes have also continued, with Darcy Moore and Alan Toovey hurt.

Moore, the father-son recruit who joined the Magpies with pick No.9 in the national draft, will be in a moon boot for three weeks after hurting his left big toe.

Toovey is on a fortnight's modified program after straining his left calf.

News of the pair's injuries come three days after it emerged that Collingwood was sending star utility Ben Reid to Germany.

Reid's injury woes continued last month when he hurt his left calf and the 'Pies have sent him overseas as they try to end his run of soft-tissue problems.
