Greater Western Sydney star forward Jeremy Cameron will miss the rest of the AFL season, requiring surgery on a troublesome left ankle.

The Giants on Tuesday said the 2013 All-Australian will go under the knife "immedtiately" and is expected to be ready for pre-season training from November.

"Unfortunately Jeremy has had an injury interrupted season, firstly with his right ankle, a perforated eardrum and then his left ankle which he injured against Brisbane," general manager of football, Graeme Allan, told the club's website.

"We have now received medical advice that he needs to undergo surgery on his left ankle.

"He will then undergo rehab and be ready to start pre-season training and look forward to 2015."

Cameron admitted the news capped off what had been a frustrating season.

"I've had a lot of injuries this year - it all started in the pre-season in a practice match," he said.

"They kept me out for single weeks here and there, and I've struggled through it a little bit. I've kind of called it quits.

"It's going to be lot better for me if I get it (surgery) done now rather than try to play out the year and I could slowly but surely injure it more."

The 21-year-old kicked 29 goals in the 14 games he played this season.

His exclusion will open the door for rookie forward Tom Boyd, the No.1 pick of last year's draft.

Cameron is off contract at the end of this year, but earlier this month declared he wants to stay at the Giants.
