The AFL should have a zero tolerance illicit drugs policy, Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley says.
"Illicit drugs, everyone acknowledges that they are an issue in the game," Hinkley told reporters on Friday.
"... From a personal point of view, I have always said zero tolerance, that is the way I would like it to be.
"But I respect what the AFL and the AFLPA are trying to do."
AFL Players Association chief Paul Marsh has reacted angrily to a report alleging up to 11 Collingwood players tested positive to illicit drugs in the off-season.
Hinkley said he would "personally, absolutely 100 per cent" want to know if any Port player registered a first strike under the drug policy.
"Port would have been tested but I don't get involved in that side of thing," he said.
"That is more from (football operations manager) Chris Davies type position or (chief executive) Keith Thomas, it's not for me.
"And what we do know, the confidentiality that is involved in that, no-one else probably finds out anything about that.
"So it's an interesting one where the initial information comes from isn't it.
"But from our point of view, we understand and respect the policies that are in place."
