AFL star Dangerfield says it's boy George

Geelong star Patrick Dangerfield and wife Mardi are first-time parents, with George Patrick Dangerfield born on Tuesday night.

For Geelong fans, it's now 62 AFL games and counting.

Their star midfielder Patrick Dangerfield has confirmed that wife Mardi gave birth on Tuesday to their first child, George Patrick.

That immediately had the Cats faithful checking how many games are left for the son of the Brownlow Medallist to become eligible as a father-son selection in 2035.

Dangerfield has played 32 games since joining from Adelaide and 100 is the father-son threshold.

For now the Crows have a recruiting advantage should George show he has his Dad's football talents and wants to pursue an AFL career.

Dangerfield played 154 games for them between 2008-15.

As is his fatherly duty, the Cats star wasted no time in embarrassing his newborn son.

"I won't lie to you ... when I saw that little willy, I could've done cartwheels," he said in announcing the birth.

"In all seriousness, it was a wonderful, wonderful night. Mum's healthy, George is healthy and I'm happy."
