AFL star to learn test results by Monday

Hawthorn star Jarryd Roughead is awaiting test results after needing surgery to remove a melanoma from his lower lip.

Hawthorn star Jarryd Roughead might have to wait until Monday to know the results of tests on a skin cancer that has put his AFL career on hold.

Roughead had a melanoma removed from his lip last week and also had skin tests to determine the extent of the problem.

It had been hoped initially to have the test results this week, but he will probably find out on Friday or Monday.

Roughead has been back at the club and Hawks football manager Chris Fagan says he is in good spirits, despite having a lot of stitches in his lower lip.

"Today, he's got a few tests to get through, which we won't know the results of until either Friday or Monday - probably more than likely Monday," Fagan told the club website.

"We're hopeful all those will be all clear, but we can't be 100 per cent sure of that, so we'll just wait and see."

Even if Roughead is in the clear, the surgery means he will be out of action for another week or two.
