Carlton favourite Kade Simpson will play on into a 17th AFL season after inking a new deal for the 2019 season.

The indefatigable 34-year-old has agreed to play on for another year as the Blues look to improve their fortunes under Brendon Bolton.

"Kade is the epitome of the player we want at the Carlton Football Club - the heart and soul of our team," Bolton said.

Simpson is one of the most loved players at Ikon Park and has showed durability almost unmatched at AFL level.

The one-club player has missed just six matches in 13 seasons.

In 2018, Simpson showed few signs of slowing.

He averaged 26 disposals per game and tallied the fourth highest number of kicks in the league.

Carlton won just two games in 2018 but Simpson said he was hopeful he and the Blues could lift that number considerably next year.

"You don't know how quickly things can turn, and we have a group of promising youngsters coming through who I've relished working closely with in a bit of a mentoring capacity," he said.

"I still feel I have plenty to offer the group so I'm rapt to be continuing on for another year."

He sits among Craig Bradley, Bruce Doull, John Nicholls and Stephen Silvagni as one of five Carlton players to have clocked 300 matches in navy blue.
