AFL's GWS Giants sweat on Deledio's scans

Brett Deledio has been injured again, one of four GWS players who were sidelined in their 151-46 win over Carlton in the AFL.

GWS veteran Brett Deledio could be out of action until the AFL finals, at best, after another calf injury.

Ruckman Dawson Simpson also has an ankle injury after Sunday's costly win over Carlton.

While the third-placed Giants mauled the bottom side by 105 points, they were down to 16 players at times during the last quarter because they had no fit players available to come off bench.

Toby Greene and Sam Taylor also were forced off with hamstring problems, although coach Leon Cameron is more confident they might be fit for Saturday night's Canberra home game against Adelaide.

Deledio has only played 16 games in his two seasons with the Giants because of injury.

Sunday was his third AFL game after 10 weeks out of action because of hamstring and calf injuries.

Cameron agrees the Giants have to be conservative with Deledio's injury, given he is 31 and his poor history.

Scans on Monday will reveal the extent of the midfielder's latest setback.

"He's hurting and so are we, because we need him out there, we want him out there,"' Cameron said.

"He'll make a big difference.

"But I just have to wait and see, whether it's two, three or four weeks."

Sunday marks the return of the Giants' injury curse this season, after it had eased in the last few weeks.

Cameron is unsure how long Simpson will be sidelined after he rolled his ankle and limped off in the third term.

"That's going to be at least a couple of weeks and fingers crossed, it's not any worse than that," Cameron said.

This was only Greene's fourth game back after he had been sidelined since round five because of injury.

"Toby's the really interesting one - his hamstring was really tight," Cameron said.

"We know he's had an interrupted pre-season, we're managing his game time.

But the coach said he might still be fit enough for the Crows game.

The Giants coach added that Ryan Griffen, Aidan Corr, Tim Taranto, Sam Reid and possibly Dylan Shiel could press for senior recalls.

"He (Shield) will be the one who will be touch and go," Cameron said.

"We know we have a huge match against Adelaide, who were clearly fantastic against the Power."
