AFL's Hanley brothers, Cian and Pearce, will return home to Ireland over a private family matter.

Gold Coast midfielder Pearce played in the Suns' QClash loss to former club Brisbane on Saturday night, while the Lions' Cian, who is yet to make his AFL debut, was not selected.

The clubs released a joint statement informing of their imminent departure.

No timeframe has been placed on their returns and the clubs have offered their support to the players.

Pearce Hanley, 28, has played 130 AFL games, including his debut for the Suns on Saturday, but 21-year-old Cian has been struck down by injuries for much of his time at the Lions.
