AFL's Suns to swim at Singapore airport

Gold Coast AFL co-captain Steven May says a pool session in Singapore is planned to ease injury concerns ahead of his team's historic AFL match in Shanghai.

Gold Coast plan to hold a mid-journey swimming pool session at Singapore airport to help alleviate injury worries before the AFL's historic match in China.

The Suns have expressed concerns their 20-hour trip could prove problematic when they take on Port Adelaide in Shanghai on Sunday.

"Our high performance team have already organised some recovery sessions in a swimming pool at Singapore airport," Suns captain Steven May said on Tuesday.

Gold Coast coach Rodney Eade has expressed concern that the long travel time could leave his players physically under-prepared and at greater risk of injury.

He was also worried about the limited number of business class seats available for his players.

Some taller players will be in business class and the rest in economy, with May revealing he'll be among the latter when they depart on Wednesday.

"I'd assume Jarrod Witts and Peter Wright would be in (business class)," said May

"(Titans CEO) Mark Evans said the cut-off height was 195cm. I'm 193cm so I've just missed out.

He added jokingly: "Gaz (Gary Ablett) will be there - he'd have paid for his own seat."

The match against Port will be the first AFL fixture played for premiership points outside of Australia and New Zealand, something the Suns insist they are eager to be a part of.

'There's a lot of excitement at out club, it's a history-making game and the first international game for a lot of our boys," May said.

If the Gold Coast manage to upset Port they would be 4-4 going into a bye.

In the club's history they have only managed one win over Port Adelaide, back in 2011.
