Melbourne are a popular tip among the AFL women's captains to reach the grand final in their second season.

But no captain has picked premiers Adelaide or grand finalists Brisbane.

The AFLW was launched on Tuesday morning in Melbourne, with the eight captains polled for their predictions.

Four rival captains tipped Melbourne as grand final opponents after they finished third in the inaugural season.

Three went for Carlton and one picked the Western Bulldogs.

Melbourne captain Daisy Pearce and Carlton skipper Bri Davey were the popular choices to win the competition best and fairest award, with three votes apiece.

Seven think Carlton spearhead Darcy Vescio will kick the most goals and Isabel Huntington from the Western Bulldogs was the main choice for the Rising Star award..

The season starts on Friday with the marquee Carlton versus Collingwood clash at Princes Park.
