The AFLW has joined the men's league in setting up a competition committee to look at the future of the game.
The women's committee will be similar to the new AFL body and will meet next month for the first time.
The AFLW will expand for its third season early next year, with four clubs to join.
While the new league has been a stunning success for the AFL, there had been considerable debate in this year's second season about game style and scoring.
"We have had tremendous reaction to our first two seasons, overall growth of female participants around Australia has continued to thrive and now is the time to cultivate the talent pathways, grow audiences and commercial interest," said AFLW football operations manager Nicole Livingstone.
"We see the AFLW competition committee as the next critical step for the women's game.
"The purpose of the committee is to assist the AFL Commission with the future direction of women's football, covering areas such as the laws of the game, tribunal, the draft, list rules and player movement, fixturing, talent programs and expansion."
