Australian police are assisting Canadian homicide detectives to investigate the death of a Victorian skier whose body was found in a gravel pit.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are treating Jake Kermond's death as suspicious and are investigating whether he was pushed off a cliff, after his body was found by a dirt biker in Whistler on June 17.

The 19-year-old from Harrietville, near the Victorian ski fields, was last seen in Whistler at about 7.30pm on April 26 leaving the Adara Hotel.

When he was found, Mr Kermond had no ID and some of his belongings were missing, including his Armada skis with blue and orange binding.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) say they received a request to assist Canadian authorities in June.

AFP have been liaising with Victoria Police, RCMP and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, a spokeswoman told AAP.

Canadian police are asking anyone with information about the 19-year-old to come forward, particularly those who saw him in the days before his disappearance.
