AGL says Liddell repairs may cause outages

Energy producer and retailer AGL expects inspections and repairs at its Liddell power station to cause disruptions in its supply to the national grid.

AGL Energy says it expects disruptions in the electricity it supplies to the national grid over the next two months due to extensive inspections and repairs at its Liddell power station in NSW.

The energy producer and retailer said it plans to alternately shut all four units at the 2,000 mega watts power plant to conduct repairs, after a recent boiler leak.

The outages will result in a $15 million to $20 million hit to net profit in the current financial year, because of direct loss of generation revenue, and the impact on the electricity trading portfolio, AGL said on Monday.

However, the company has maintained its FY16 outlook for profit to be in the top half of its $650 million to $720 million guidance range.
