Agnieszka Radwanska into final eight

Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska will make her fourth consecutive Australian Open quarter-final appearance after beating Spaniard Garbine Muguruza.

Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska is about to step into the spotlight in a quarter-final meeting with defending Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka.

The fifth seed booked her place in the last eight for the fourth consecutive year at Melbourne Park with a clinical 6-1 6-3 victory over unseeded Spaniard Garbine Muguruza.

Radwanska, 24, gave a tennis lesson to her 20-year-old opponent, who had previously never advanced further than the second round of a grand slam.

Muguruza, who eliminated 10th seed Caroline Wozniacki, did herself no favours, unable to convert any of her six break-point opportunities.

It brought to an end an impressive summer that started with her first WTA tour title with victory in the Hobart International.

Radwanska has made the final eight four successive times but has never gone further.

Standing in her way this time is defending champion Azarenka, who crushed 13th seed American Sloane Stephens 6-3 6-2 in her fourth-round match.

Radwanska had a stuttering start to the year, crashing out in her first match of the Sydney International as the defending champion at the hands of a qualifier.

She has had a quiet build-up at the Open, only facing one other seed in No. 29 Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who she beat in straight sets last round.

"I'm just very, very happy that I could play my best tennis tonight," Radwanska said.

"I watched her play and I knew that I would have to play at 100 per cent to beat her."
