A lawyer who worked for Attorney-General Christian Porter until late last year is among his latest appointees to a key tribunal.

William Frost is one-of-86 appointments made to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and was an adviser to Mr Porter for four years, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age report.

Mr Porter has defended the decision to appoint him to a position that pays up to $244,520 a year, noting Mr Frost's decade of experience in commercial litigation and administrative law and Labor's previous appointments of ex-staffers to the AAT.
