AICD wants referendum on 4-yr terms

The Australian Institute of Company Directors wants a referendum on fixing four-year federal parliamentary terms.

The Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) has called for a referendum on fixing a four-year term for federal parliament.

The AICD wants the major political parties to commit to a referendum in 2017 as part of their federal election campaigns.

AICD chief executive John Brogden says the past 15 parliaments haven't even run their full three-year term, and governments should be given more time so that they can make long-term decisions and see them through.
