Air and water search for boy to continue

Authorities continue their search for a five-year-old boy who was swept into the sea by a large wave on the NSW Central Coast.

An air and water search will continue on Friday morning for a five-year-old boy who was swept into the sea off a NSW Central Coast beach.

With light fading on Thursday, planes, helicopters and surf lifesaving dinghies were recalled while water police boats and divers continued looking for the boy in waters off Pearl Beach.

A command post had been set up and would be manned overnight, a police spokeswoman told AAP.

The boy was swept into the surf by a large wave about 1.50pm on Thursday.

Surf lifesavers told Fairfax Media the boy's family might not have been able to save him.

"They're not sure whether anybody could actually swim," a spokeswoman for Surf Life Saving NSW said.
