Airline Rex worried about oil price slide

Regional Express Group lifts first half profit eight per cent to $3.9 million and says the outlook is "moderately positive".

Airline operator Regional Express (Rex) Group has warned that the sharp slide in oil prices could hurt passenger numbers on some routes but it's "moderately positive" about its outlook.

The airline made a net profit of $3.9 million for the six months to December 31, up from $3.6 million a year ago.

It said it was "moderately positive" about the outlook for the second half despite a fall in passenger numbers during the first few weeks of the 2015 calendar year.

Rex said the sharp fall in oil prices could hurt sentiment in the resources sector, which in turn could impact on the group's performance, although that should be offset by the addition of new routes in Queensland.
