Albanian police say they have arrested 16 suspects thought to be involved in trafficking people to the US.
The group allegedly charged more than 50 Albanian citizens $US20,000 ($A21,639) each to take them to Mexico, providing them with false documents there to enter the US, police and prosecution said on Monday.
"The trafficking route included Albania, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Italy and Spain," Albi Serani, the prosecutor's spokesman said.
Serani said the investigation was ongoing, adding that more people could be involved in the trafficking network.
Since 2010, Albanians have been able to travel to European Union member states without visas. But they still need visas for the US.
