Albasini wins again at Tour of Romandie

Orica-GreenEDGE's Swiss star Michael Albasini has won another Tour of Romandie stage, to maintain his overall lead.

Switzerlands' Michael Albasini has won another Tour of Romandie sprint finish, taking the third stage to retain his overall lead.

Albasini, who also won on Wednesday and three stages last year, eased past in-form Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe at the end of Thursday's 172.5km route from Moutier to Porrentruy.

Damiano Caruso of Italy was third, while Albasini's Australian Orica-GreenEDGE teammate Simon Gerrans took fifth place, one ahead of countryman Nathan Haas, all of whom posted the same time after the bunched finish.

With time bonuses, Albasini built a 20-second overall lead from his teammate, Italy's Ivan Santaromita, and two-time defending champion Chris Froome of Britain.

Froome had two rivals for overall victory, Vincenzo Nibali of Italy and Nairo Quintana of Colombia, launch attacks in the closing kilometres.

The fourth stage on Friday is a 170km ride favouring sprinters, from La Neuveville to Fribourg.
