Alberto Calderon named Orica CEO

Explosives maker Orica has appointed Alberto Calderon as its chief executive, almost two months after he temporarily stepped into the role.

Orica has appointed Alberto Calderon as its new chief executive, almost two months after he temporarily stepped in to the role following the sudden departure of Ian Smith.

The former senior executive at BHP Billiton, has been acting in the role since March 23 and will now take it on permanently after what the explosives maker says was an "extensive global search".

Mr Calderon will receive a fixed salary of $1.8 million, but could earn up to three times that through short term incentives payments.

He has been appointed on a rolling contract with no fixed term.
