Albrechtsen, Brown to oversee SBS, ABC board appointments

The federal government has appointed journalist Janet Albrechtsen and former Liberal Minister Neil Brown to the nomination panel for appointments to SBS and the ABC.

Doctor Albrechtsen was a member of the ABC Board from 2005 to 2010, and writes a weekly column for the The Australian newspaper.

Neil Brown was a member of federal parliament until 1991, holding Ministries and Shadow Ministries in five portfolios, including communications.

The pair join Ric Smith and David Gonski on the nomination panel, which makes recommendations to the Minister for Communications on the appointment of non-executive members and chairpeople to the broadcasters' boards.

Their terms will run for three years.
