Alessandro del Piero to play against his old club Juventus

Alessandro Del Piero says he not yet committed to Sydney FC next season and admits the All Stars match in August may be his last.

Australian football fans might get the chance to witness history after Alessandro Del Piero conceded the A-League All Stars clash against his former side Juventus could be his final match.

Del Piero was confirmed as the All Stars captain on Tuesday for the August 10 exhibition match at Sydney's ANZ Stadium.

The Sydney FC skipper says he has yet to decide if he'll sign a new deal with the Sky Blues after his contract expires at the end of this campaign.

And should the 39-year-old World Cup winner decide to bring the curtain down on his distinguished career of more than 20 years, the All Star game will become globally significant.

But Del Piero said he wouldn't discuss a third season with the Sky Blues until this campaign was over.

The embattled club posted a much-needed win last week and only just hang on to sixth spot, and Del Piero knows they have a tough task to make finals.

"I really don't know what will happen for next season," he said on Tuesday.

"First of all, me and all my teammates have to focus about the season.

"We won last week but we are not in a good place in the ladder.

"That's why I will talk at the end of the season with the club."

Asked if the All Stars clash would be his football swan song, he said: "Yes, it is possible this maybe will be the final one, but maybe not.

"Now is not the moment for me to answer that."

However, former Dutch international Edgar Davids said he would love to see his old Juventus teammate back in the black and white stripes.

"Yes, I definitely want to see him do that," he said.

Despite being the fans' most requested star for the inaugural All Stars match against Manchester United in 2013, Del Piero missed the clash.

But he'll line up against his former club for the first time since leaving Juventus following a trophy-laden 19 years, 11 of which he spent as captain, and scored an impressive 290 goals in 705 matches.

Del Piero says he's in contact with his former teammates but isn't sure how he'll feel going up against them.

"I'm really curious but it will be a great moment for me," he said.

"My emotions, I don't know. This will be the first time and every first time you don't know what will happen."

Football Federation Australia chief executive David Gallop said Del Piero would receive a substantial appearance fee but wouldn't reveal the amount.

Gallop said that since the success of Manchester United and Liverpool's visits, other big clubs had expressed interest in playing pre-season friendlies in Australia.

Juventus, the most successful Italian club, has committed to bringing a full-strength squad to Australia despite the match being only a month after the World Cup, in which up to 17 of the club's players will take part.
