Alex Johnston cleared of NRL hamstring woe

South Sydney's Alex Johnston is expected to be fit for the NRL finals after scans cleared him of serious hamstring damage.

South Sydney have breathed a sigh of relief after fullback Alex Johnston was cleared of a serious hamstring injury.

Johnston lasted just minutes in Friday's win over the Sydney Roosters, sparking fears the Rabbitohs could be without the try-scorer for at least some of the finals.

However, scans cleared the 23-year-old of serious damage and he's expected to return in time for the play-offs.

"He's pulled up really well, actually," Souths high-performance manager Paul Devlin said.

"We've scanned him, scans showed very little. He'll start rebuilding his confidence in his hamstring tomorrow.

"It's just a case of not taking any chances with a player like him. He's smart and understands his body. We don't expect him to miss too many games at all."

The Rabbitohs are also preparing this week for the potential return of Greg Inglis, who's spent six weeks on the sidelines with a broken thumb.
