It will be Ricciardo’s fourth season driving for Red Bull Racing after he replaced compatriot Mark Webber in 2014.
Ricciardo is contracted with the Austrian team until the end of 2018.
It’s believed Ferrari was interested in signing him last year before he committed his future to Red Bull.
The 27-year-old hasn’t ruled out driving for Formula One’s most successful team in the future.
“It gets talked about a bit with the heritage,” Ricciardo said.
“If I can be in a position that I’ve won championships already, then I can pick and choose where I want to win the next one then maybe that would be pretty exciting.”
“The first thing I want to do is win a world title, and I’ve got two more years at the moment with Red Bull and the plan is to get at least one in those two years.”
“Then I’ll figure out the next part afterwards.”
Staying true to Italian heritage
His father Joe was born in Sicily and migrated to Australia with his family in the 1960’s.
While born and raised in Perth, Ricciardo has embraced his Italian heritage.
“I’m pretty in touch with my Italian roots, but I certainly haven’t forgotten the place I grew up and the place I’ll always call home with Australia,” Ricciardo said.
“I spent two years in Italy so I picked up the language then, at least some of it.”
“It’s nice to have a second language and it helps with my surname.”
“People kind of expect me to speak Italian so it does help when I can put a few sentences together.”
