The video for Katy Perry's single Dark Horse has been edited after it was branded "blasphemous" by members of the Muslim community.
In the video, Perry plays an Egyptian queen with the power to turn people to sand.
A number of Muslims were outraged when Perry is seen killing a man wearing a pendant which says Allah (God) in Arabic. The pendant is also zapped.
Members of the Islamic community branded the clip "blasphemous" and a petition was launched on Change.org calling for the video to be removed from YouTube.
The petition garnered more than 65,000 signatures and the pendant has now been digitally removed from the video, although it is unclear whether the alteration was made by YouTube bosses or at the request of the singer or her record label.
Shazad Iqbal, the creator of the petition, has revealed he is thrilled with the outcome.
"The name of Allah has been removed from the Dark Horse video - we couldn't have done it without everyone's support so I thank each and every one of you deeply, our voices have been heard," he wrote on change.org.com.
Perry will visit Australia next week to promote her November tour with dates for New Zealand to be announced soon.
The Australian leg of The Prismatic World Tour will include shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane.
