Alleged ex-Bandidos boss fronts court

An alleged former Bandidos boss has faced court in Brisbane after returning to Australia and handing himself in to police.

An alleged former Bandidos boss has faced court in Brisbane charged with a string of violent offences, including extortion and assault.

Brett Pechey, the alleged former president of the motorcycle gang's West End chapter, did not enter a plea when he appeared in the District Court on Thursday.

The 28-year-old voluntarily handed himself in to police on Wednesday after flying into Brisbane from Thailand, where he has lived for more than a year.

Pechey left the country after a violent brawl at Broadbeach on the Gold Coast in 2013.

He's facing a number of charges, including nine counts of extortion, one count of threatening violence and one count each of stalking, assault occasioning bodily harm and assault occasioning bodily harm in company.

He has also been charged with a number of other offences including affray, rioting, breach of bail and seven traffic offences.

The Bandidos' West End chapter has been accused of using standover tactics to bully and threaten victims into handing over money and property.

Police say dwindling funds led to Pechey's decision to return to Australia.

The heavily-tattooed alleged gang member sat in the dock in a T-shirt and shorts, a tattoo reading "Brothers 4 Life" visible on the back of his thigh.

He did not apply for bail, and will reappear at Beenleigh District Court on March 5.
