The man accused of stabbing a young Gold Coast mother to death had a domestic violence order out against him.

Raymond Mead, 49, did not appear in person when the case was mentioned in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Mead has been charged with one count of murder after the stabbing death of his step-daughter Sherelle Locke, 23, at a Boronia Heights property on Sunday night.

He is also facing a charge of contravening a domestic violence order. The court was not given any further details about the order or to whom it related.

Mead's own daughter made a brief appearance in the courtroom but left before the matter was mentioned.

Ms Locke's aunt and cousin were also present at court, but neither spoke to media after the case was mentioned.

Mead did not apply for bail on Tuesday and the matter will return to court on April 15.
