BROTHERS 4 LIFE CRACKDOWN: Police cracked down on the west Sydney crime group in November after a spate of shootings across the city this year.t least 10 alleged gang members were charged on November 7 over Sydney shootings that have killed or injured other gang members.Mohammed Hamzy, believed to be the de facto gang leader, was the biggest catch after he was charged with murdering fellow gang member Yehyah Amood on October 14, 2012, at Greenacre.Police zeroed in on the group after an innocent 13-year-old girl was hit in the back when she was caught in the crossfire of gang violence.Deputy Police Commissioner Nick Kaldas said internal conflict in the gang was behind the shootings. He has said the gang's all about "selfish profit-driven criminality".

An accused Brothers 4 Life gang murderer "vehemently" denies allegations he killed one man and shot at another in Sydney's west last year, his lawyer says.

Mohamad Kouaider, 28, was one of six alleged Brothers 4 Life street gang members arrested in a police swoop on Thursday.

Detectives charged the Auburn man with murdering Yehyah Amood and shooting Bassam Hijazi with intent to murder on October 14 last year in Greenacre.

Court papers show the alleged murder and attempted murder took place in broad daylight, about 1.20pm.

Kouaider did not apply for bail during a brief appearance at Burwood Local Court on Thursday and it was formally refused.

His solicitor Sam Abbas told AAP he would fight the charges.

"He remains an accused person, an accused person only," Mr Abbas said outside court.

"He vehemently denies the charges and in due course he'll mount his defence."

Kouaider will reappear at court via video link in a week.

Mr Amoud was shot dead last year as he and his friend, Mr Hijazi, sat on Greenacre Road in a Mercedes that reportedly bore "BFL" number plates.
