Controversial Australian golfer Robert Allenby will be out to end a year to forget in memorable fashion at the Australian PGA Championship on the Gold Coast.
Allenby, who made headlines earlier this year when he claimed he was robbed and kidnapped in Hawaii, has confirmed he'll play in December at Royal Pines.
The four-time PGA Championship winner will aim to match the late Kel Nagle's record of five victories at the event.
"I have always been in awe of Kel's career achievements and, to be able to join him in history as having the won the most Australian PGA Championship titles, would be a huge honour," Allenby said.
"I have gone close a few times recently and I will certainly be giving it my best shot this year."
Apart from his Hawaii incident in January, Allenby also spectacularly fell out with caddie Mick Middlemo during the opening round of the Canadian Open.
Days after Middlemo stormed off the course in Ontario, Allenby fired the Australian as his caddie.
Middlemo would later claim Allenby's story about being bashed and kidnapped in Honolulu was a lie and the golfer had simply fallen over while drunk and someone had then stolen his wallet.
This year's Australian PGA Championship tees off on December 3.
