Allen's WNBA season ended by injury

Australian forward Rebecca Allen's rookie WNBA season has been cut short by a knee injury requiring surgery.

Injury has ended Australian Rebecca Allen's rookie WNBA season after just five games.

The 22-year-old forward is returning home for knee surgery after suffering cartilage damage as her New York Liberty team lost 75-59 to Washington Mystics on Sunday.

Allen was signed by the Liberty after impressing with the Australian Opals in their 2014 world championship bronze medal campaign.

Fellow Australian Abby Bishop scored a WNBA career-high 18 points to help the Seattle Storm (2-2) to a 60-54 win over the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday.
