Alliance set to fly higher in 2015

Fly-in-fly-out company Alliance Airlines says it's optimistic about the year ahead despite more than halving its profit in fiscal 2014.

Regional airline Alliance Airlines is confident of returning to form in 2015 after its profits more than halved during a "transitional year for the business".

The company, which flies workers to remote mines across the country, made a $10.3 million net profit in the year to June 30 - down from $23.3 million the year before.

The loss was partly driven by a decline in the company's ad-hoc charter and short-term leasing businesses.

It tried to offset the falls in that business by increasing its mining services contracts.

Alliance signed new contracts with resources giant BHP Billiton and outsourcing firm Serco, which it says will help push profits up this financial year.

It also extended existing contracts with BHP, gold miner Newcrest and explosives group Incitec Pivot.

"These contracts will deliver a financial result in 2015 comparable with the 2013 financial year which was a record for Alliance," the company said on Thursday.

Alliance shares were up seven cents or 5.47 per cent to $1.35 at 1400.

ALLIANCE AIRLINES PROFITS MORE THAN HALVE

* Net profit of $10.3m, down 55.8 pct from $23.3m in 2012/13

* Revenue of $200.2m, down 10.3 pct from $223.2m

* Final dividend of 2.1 cents a share, down from 5.6 cents
